Leading High-Performing Teams

High-performing teams are the key to any successful business.

Although most people can describe what makes a strong team - respect, trust, communication, accountability and collaboration – few know how to create the conditions to make it happen.

Through facilitated discussion and interactive exercises, participants will get an objective perspective of their team’s dynamics, their role on the team and how to establish more generative relationships with co-workers.

Objectives:

  • Identify the team’s stage of development and how to accelerate progression to the next phase

  • Improve communication by learning how other team members need to receive information

  • Identify behaviors that increase and detract from trust

  • Create greater team productivity and focus in the midst of constant change

  • Learn core communication skills to foster greater collaboration and minimize misunderstandings

Optional:

This workshop can be based on or supplemented with Patrick Lencioni's Five Dysfunctions of a Team assessment.  Prior to the session, each team member takes a short online assessment that pinpoints specific areas for team development.  The workshop can then be more sharply customized to address the team’s specific needs.

The Five Dysfunctions of a Team examines:

  • Dysfunction #1: Absence of Trust

The fear of being vulnerable with team members prevents the building of trust within the team.

  • Dysfunction #2: Fear of Conflict

The desire to preserve artificial harmony stifles the occurrence of productive ideological conflict.

  • Dysfunction #3: Lack of Commitment

The lack of clarity or buy-in prevents team members from making decisions they will stick to.

  • Dysfunction #4: Avoidance of Accountability

The need to avoid interpersonal discomfort prevents team members from holding one another accountable.

  • Dysfunction #5: Inattention to Results

The pursuit of individual goals and personal status erodes the focus on collective success.
